Emergency Medical Training

While in Afghanistan Dan had been informed that he was a candidate for the specialized Army "school" Emergency Medical Training. Last week all the candidates were tested and Dan was one of the highest scores. He was selected and today (January 11) he started a six week training course. This is very intensive with a lot of reading during the four weeks of classroom work. There are two weeks of field work riding around in an emergency vehicle and hands on in an emergency room in a local hospital in Savannah, Georgia. I am sure Dan would appreciate your prayers!

The good thing about this prayer request is that nobody is shooting at him this time.

Post Office Special Mailing Box

Last time we sent you Dan's APO address. In case you would like to send him a care package, the post office has special boxes that you can use to send to an Army Post Office address. The flat rate is $11.96 and you may pack it with as much weight as you want. In the post office they will also have custom form that you will have to fill out.
Dan wrote in an e-mail: "...other than that just like trail mix and diff kinds of peanuts and maybe some good beef jerky would be nice." I am sure he would not get upset if you sent candy and bubble gum (or other junk food).

Danny's APO Box

Maybe you don't realize it, but there are two things soldiers love to get. One is prayers and the other is mail. Dan has an APO address and I am sure he would love to hear from you. Please be aware that he probably will not be able to write back! He is very busy but not so busy that he will not get time to read your notes.

Soldiers are criticized by the media and many individuals. A note of appreciation, love and encouragement goes a long way. A care package is also welcomed. Here is Dan's address:

Escobar, Daniel
PRG 6-3
APO AE 09354

We greatly appreciate your PRAYERS!

September 7--11PM Call

Last night (September 7) the phone rang at 11 PM. We really don't like late night phone calls now that Danny is away. It was Dan and not the Army so we were delighted. He made it to his final destination. He said the "bird" was very slow and the weather was not very good. It was a lot longer flight, but good thing he is no longer a private and could stretch out on the floor and got some good rest on the flight.

When he got there he got sick and there was a concern it was swine flu since two previous Rangers had to be shipped home. They did not want to contaminate the group. He got a bunch of shots and was feeling a little better. There is a lot of work and getting used to the altitude is going to take some time.

Love and blessings,
Dad for Danny

Dan is on his way

Yesterday we got an e-mail from Dan that due to bad weather the flight had been delayed. He is somewhere in route. When we have more information I will pass it on.

By the way, Ric has to perform a wedding as a favor to one of our missionaries from Spain. The wedding will be here in south Florida on Sunday at 5 PM in the heat. Ric is not the wedding type and in reality is only doing it because the person that was supposed to do it could not make it. Pray that all will go smoothly. Thank you for your prayers!

RIP Graduation

DAN IS A RANGER NOW!

After being recycled once and six weeks of extreme challenges our Big Boy finally was blessed by the Lord with the desire of his heart. To get into a Ranger Battalion is an honor and extremely demanding. To stay in one is even more difficult.
Friday, May 30, Dan graduated from RIP (the Ranger Introduction program). He was assigned to the 1st Ranger Battalion in Savannah, GA. There is one Ranger Regiment and three Ranger Battalions in the U.S. Army. Thank you for praying for all of us.
